The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) -is the global representative body of the fragrance industry. It only specifies labeling pertaining to weight, height, measurements etc but nothing about ingredients. Considering the thriving theatre scene in Norwich and the regular competitions for new playwrights, it seems like something we should take to heart. Russell wrote the internationally-successful musical Blood Brothers as a school play in 1982, and is passionate about the idea that good playwrights should get the chance to show what they can do in local theatres. Read the scripts for Blood Brothers, Stags and Hens and Our Day Out (all found in the BOOK ZONE at 822.91), some of Willy Russell’s other famous plays. Pauline Collins (who played Shirley in the original stage production) is brilliant, and it’s a film guaranteed to make anyone who watches it seriously consider running away to a beach somewhere. Like Rita, Shirley is a working-class woman from Liverpool who feels trapped by poverty and assumptions other people make about her, who discovers herself when she takes a trip to Greece. Try another film based on a Willy Russell play, Shirley Valentine (BOOK ZONE 822.91). Willy Russell is really good at drawing on his own working class background and struggles to make believable and sympathetic characters. You’ll be cheering Rita all the way to graduation! It isn’t a story of someone who takes a course and magically makes their life better, but it shows that taking a chance and doing something completely new can make a big change. Lots of learners can sympathise with Rita’s struggles to be accepted – people make assumptions about her ability to learn based on her accent and clothes, and she clearly has difficulty with the traditional way the course is taught – but she refuses to give up, and by the end she has found the place that she wants in the world. Even Frank, who was once passionate about teaching and literature, has stopped caring whether his students succeed or fail. Rita teaches Frank as much as he teaches herĮducating Rita is also about Rita’s realisation that the world of ‘educated’ people isn’t as perfect as she expects – she thinks that people who have been to university have a better life than she does, but she soon learns that while they have advantages and privileges, they also have the emotional problems and fears that all people have. Rita, of course, has her own feelings about that, and it’s inspiring to watch her take control of her life, despite both her husband and Frank’s attempts to make her believe she can’t do it. He encourages her at first because he finds her straightforward way of seeing the world refreshing, but he quickly doubts whether she will be able to succeed in such a snobbish academic atmosphere with her background and social class. She meets Professor Frank Bryant (Michael Caine, with an impressive beard) who is openly alcoholic and has become disillusioned with teaching. Rita’s husband thinks she should give up her dreams of education and does everything he can to discourage her, but she’s determined. Based on Willy Russell’s play, Educating Rita is about a hairdresser from Liverpool, played by Julie Walters, who decides to take an Open University course in Literature. It’s not too late to get involved – tomorrow there’s a session on ‘Victorian Life Through the Lens’ and all this week we’ve had a Book Recycle going on in the Information Store! If you haven’t had a chance to get to any events this year, keep an eye out for Adult Learners’ events in the future.Įducating Rita (BOOK ZONE 822.91) is one of the best films about an adult learner ever made. It’s Adult Learners’ Week this week, which is the perfect opportunity to try out something completely new. When I proposed CSV injection as a vulnerability back in 2014, I envisaged hackers injecting malicious formulas to exfiltrate sensitive information from spreadsheets. James: I need to personally apologize for this one. Missing rate-limiting without immediate impact (other than DOS) is often excluded from bug bounties precisely because it falls short of the risk vs. If a request just creates workload on the application, would you really want to fix it at all? Every single fix requires attention, engineering time, testing time, and sometimes even introduces new bugs. While the impact of brute-forcing one-time passwords can be devastating, it does not mean that every single application endpoint should limit the number of incoming connections from one IP. Fix has been deployed, 10 people involved: taxpayers money well spent, right? Let's try to send one more email. A month after the initial report, 23 messages had been sent back and forth about how to reproduce the vulnerability. Michael: " Attacker could use this vulnerability to bomb out the email inbox of the victim" - so says one of the reports on HackerOne, sent to a government program. Unfortunately, the vindictive developers won't let you disable it, so you'll need to deploy a reverse proxy. Nobody could possibly guess that a web server might be running Apache, or fingerprint it using one of 53 alternative techniques. This incredibly reckless banner opens the flood-gates for numerous hacks that are otherwise completely impossible. My favourite example is "Server: Apache". Other information is near-useless outside of far-fetched, hypothetical scenarios, and yet still gets reported daily. James: Some information disclosure is invaluable. In the end, this probably increases the chance of someone accidentally typing their password on a malicious page. You'll do it all over again, because you have to, but you probably won't be giving your bank a 5-star rating any time soon.Īll joking aside, it's a bit of a double-edged sword: session timeouts can prevent some XSS exploitations, but the more often you need to type your password, the less attention you're going to pay each time. When you finally get round to submitting the form, you get an error saying that your session is no longer valid. You switch to another page to track down some of the details, verify them three times, then check out Reddit just for a sec. Now imagine a scenario where you need to submit a money transfer request, and the bank asks you to fill out an online form with a dozen different input fields. If you don't want to provide this convenience to your users, you can implement a session timeout that logs them out after five minutes of inactivity. Michael: Gmail and Facebook sessions last for years and you can access them from different devices simultaneously. Still, everyone likes lists, so we built a shortlist of uncountable terrible vulnerabilities and, after lengthy debate, have whittled it down to create. And finally, sometimes, we frankly have no idea. Some are the offspring of policies, where sanity is left at the door. Others were once-great issues, crushed by browser updates but still living an oblivious half-life. Some are simply misunderstandings, or even just beg-bounties. But if you cast your gaze across pentest reports and bug bounty findings, you'll discover another insidious theme emerges: 'vulnerabilities' that simply don't make sense. Overview Available wifi networks on campus The main game mode, Dwarf Fortress mode, is a colony management game that starts with selecting a suitable site from the generated world, establishing a successful colony or fortress, combating threats like goblin invasions, monster sieges, or undead hordes, generating economic wealth and taking care of the dwarves. Before playing, the player has to set in motion a process which generates a fantasy world with continents, oceans, and islands, produced via generative geology and hydrogeology, meteorology, and biogeography, and then simulates the evolution of all civilizations down to the lives of their inhabitants in order to yield a coherent world with internally consistent lore and history. It is open-ended with no main objectives. The game influenced Minecraft, Rimworld, and others, and was selected among other games to be featured in the Museum of Modern Art to show the history of video gaming in 2012.įor the vast majority of the game's history, it solely had text-based graphics (using the CP437 character set), but the Premium edition released in 2022 added the option to use a tile set to represent the game world. Critics praised its complex and emergent gameplay but had mixed reactions to its difficulty. The primary game mode is set in a procedurally generated fantasy world in which the player indirectly controls a group of dwarves, and attempts to construct a successful and wealthy fortress. Available as freeware and in development since 2002, its first alpha version was released in 2006 and received attention for being a two-member project surviving solely on donations. And… and… and I saw it as a challenge, to go through, get into and work with this music that I had such ambiguous feelings about, because I had to sort of "buy in" to the style, as well as the mythology of the film series in order to organize a decent representation. And I knew that there was an enormous amount of music from all three films available. And trilogy mixes, where I have the opportunity to explore the development of themes over the course of a film series, are probably my favorite to make. Those moments, though… they gave me an idea for the basic structure for an album. There were a few moments I felt were especially inspired, but for the most part I was not too jazzed by the music by its appearance in the films or on the albums, feeling it was mostly pretty routine stuff, reasonably effective in the films but little more. My reaction to the music for the Christopher Nolan Batman films - which seem to be referred to now as "The Dark Knight Trilogy" - was indifference at worst, lukewarm at best. Sometimes I get an idea that ends up taking me in directions I am a bit surprised by. Sometimes I try things that just don't work (I never managed to get a Harry Palmer mix together, for example the scores are just too different). In cases like that, I don't always know where that process will take me, but that's part of what makes this hobby interesting. Sometimes this is for a track or two, sometimes it's for an entire mix. I have on occasion talked about "getting bitten by the mix bug." This is because there are some ideas I have that appear in the back of my mind and then start to bother me until I try them out.
